Lumos the parrot

10.14.2011

I feel like it's a fine tradition for honeymooners to come home with a souvenir or two from their first vacation has a married couple. However, I am not one to grab up dime store replicas of original art work. I don't want to put any artwork in my house that hasn't been hand painted, handmade or has some kind of visual value that only Ryan and I can define. That being said I wanted a souvenir from our honeymoon.

To my delightful surprise there was a vendor on the resort's beach that knew my heart and was ready for just such a pair of love birds. We promptly picked out the biggest parrot in the bunch of clay sculptures and got to work.

Ryan and I took turns painting the feathers and then our lovely Mexican host painted the details and glazed our new pet to glistening perfection. At first I wanted to name him Moonie, because we were on our honeymoon, but Ryan frowned at the idea. Then the name Lumos came to mind and it just fit so perfectly we agreed he was born a Lumos and a Lumos he should stay. Lumos is now perched on a little box in our decorative fireplace making the living room a little happier everyday. big kiss, bekuh

PS- Yes, we put a bird on it.
