A Few Words to Live By

1.09.2013

I'm not typically a quote kinda gal. I very rarely post them on my blog, and I most certainly don't bring them up in conversation, but every once in awhile a quote will speak so loudly it's almost impossible to ignore. I don't mean that they're earth shattering, or even the best quote ever. What I mean is that something about the words resonate with me in a deeper way because of where I'm at in life. At that moment it has very real purpose for me. These two quotes have had this effect on me recently:

More and more I find myself contemplating what's really important to me and having a job I love, and feel passionate about, is high on my list of life goals. Work is inevitable, and part of growing up, so shouldn't we get as much enjoyment out of it as possible? I'm going to have to have a job until I'm at least 65 so I'm bound and determined to seek out positions that fit me like the proverbial glove. Along those lines it's also important to remember that we have a purpose in life and that we should seek every day to live out that purpose. There is indeed so much to be done, and I know all too well how easy it is to get distracted from doing it. As I seek out that perfect job, I will try not to be discouraged by the work I must do to get there. Food for thought on this Wednesday. big kiss, bekuh

  1. we have just downsized to a charming little apartment for our family and we love it. in the process, we got rid of about 1/2 of our stuff and let me tell you...it was SO liberating. wonderful sentiments here and good luck to you with your new goal. xo

  2. I think it's so important, yet so difficult to show gratitude for the job, or where you are in life now, when it's not really where you want to be. - It's definitely something I struggle with... I think everyone does.

  3. We have been dealing with a lot of this too lately - so busy unpacking, figuring out what we should give to GoodWill, what we need to keep but have no place for (we have some lovely like cookie dishes and stuff, but our kitchen now is half the size of our old one). Good luck with getting everything done and figured out - know you're not the only one dealing with all of this.

  4. I love love love the first quote. Growing up I thought happiness lied in a fancy place and a high powered job (in New York City, of course) but the older I get the more I realize it's just about love: loving your job, no matter how menial, loving your space, no matter how small, and having love from all the people you share it with.

  7. Great quotes doll! I especially love that first one! I am a quoter (I live off of quotes...historical, songs, films, etc.... I don't care)! I tell my Jason all the time I would gladly sell our home and move to a tiny place if it was in a city we both seriously loved and doing what made us happy!

  10. I must say I'm completely the opposite... I love quotes! People often say to me "you'll be lucky to find a job you like, let alone love" and it makes me really sad that people settle for spending so much time doing something they don't like. It might not be easy but I'm determined to find something that I genuinely enjoy doing! I hope you find what you're looking for before too long :)

  12. I feel like this too regarding work. I want more than anything to have a job I love even if it means less money. At the end of the day happiness is a state of mind not how much money you have in your bank account. I am trying to pick up more writing work so I hope it goes well. Hope it goes well for you too!

  13. Reminds me of another quote..."Nothing is really work unless you would rather be doing something else." (J.M. Barrie)

On the other hand, I have friends who are creatives and have loved what they've done..until they made it their full-time occupation which reminds me of ANOTHER quote (sorry. I love quotes!)..."Set me anything to do as a task, and it is inconceivable the desire I have to do something else." (George Bernard Shaw)

But I definitely agree. Work should be interesting not soul-destroying. What do you consider your perfect job? :) All the best working towards it, you never know what is just around the corner! x
