2013 is Going to be Awesome

12.29.2012

2013 is going to be awesome! Quite possibly the best year ever. Ryan and I have so many hopes and dreams for the coming year, and we've already started to proactively pursue these interests. Last year was so task oriented, and we hit so many road blocks that our successes were overshadowed by disappoints more often than not. Not in 2013 though, I'm feeling good about this year. Instead of making a long list of a thousand goals like I did last year (see yesterday's post) I'm going to instead focus more on a life mission instead.

Our biggest goal this year is downsizing our belongings. Right now Ryan and I are trying to get rid of about half of our apartment so we can move into a smaller space by the time our lease is up in July. We've already made some progress, and I'm looking forward to achieving much more in the coming months. It feels good to clean out the clutter, ya know? Even if we don't get rid of truly half our belongings (because that's a lot of stuff), this is a good exercise in self control and discipline that we could both use.

I want to look back on my life in ten or twenty years and see travel, passion, and adventure. I'd love to have a magazine worthy home, but that's not the priority right now. I think that the "stuff" we've filled our life with is keeping us from realizing bigger dreams. And that's all I'm going to say about that today.

This year isn't about checking off boxes, or tackling massive projects. This year is about loving where we're at right now. Here it is, the 2013 Browning Family Mantra:

What are you big goals, plans, missions, or mantra for the coming year? I'd genuinely love to hear them. big kiss, bekuh

  2. Great post, Bekuh! I feel exactly the same about what I want to see when I look back on my life: Lots of adventures and lots of time spent with the people I love. In 2013, I'm also going to be really focus on how I spend my money. I work hard for the money I make, so I don't want to simply throw it away on random purchases. I might even be a "real" adult and finally open an IRA.

  5. Probably the best goals ever! I love that you are focusing on ridding yourself of material things, something that our society is obsessed with. Currently I don't have a permanent home to myself, so I'm constantly packing things, moving things, organizing, getting rid of things, trying to keep everything in my car for unexpected trips. It's just nice to live simpler :) After christmas is a great time to clean! Good luck on your goals!

  6. You're right. I'm looking forward to archieving a lot of things this year. I lived in China for two years and it taught me a lot of things about life. Since then, I've learned to live with less things, and it helps a lot. Over the years I've tried to get rid off useless stuff and focus more on important things.

A simple life, is a happier life for sure :)

  8. I've been slowly getting rid of things I don't need as well. Minimalism in personal belongings is a freeing thing I've found. It gets easier the more you part with.

    Have a wonderful New Year!

  16. That is such an amazing thing to work toward! You'll have to be my inspiration this year, because I need to do something sort of similar. I'm going on a mission next year and I really need to de-clutter my bedroom before I go. Not as huge as de-cluttering a whole house, but it'll be a challenge all the same! Good luck in your endeavor--keep us updated!!

  17. Such a great mantra to have! I've abandoned New Years resolutions this year (I prefer to set monthly goals) but I have committed to trying to live a simpler life. So plenty of decluttering has been going on here & I know exactly what you mean about it being a good feeling!

  20. I am one of those that makes a ton of resolutons & goals - it just is how I am. But I've still yet to write them out and post them. It is exciting though to start anew and fresh. I love the simplicity of yours. I hope you are able to make this the best year yet!

I have already finished one of my New Years resolutions/goals(and it was one that terrified me and I doubted a lot!) so I have a feeling it will be a pretty spectacular year for me as well. Cheers to 2013!
