Doing Chores: Laundry Day

2.24.2012

I don't know if I ever mentioned this before, but Ryan and I have no laundry facilities in our apartment so we're unfortunately forced to do laundry in one of two ways. One, lug our baskets and bins down the road to the local laundromat that charges an arm and a leg to dry things. Two, lug our baskets and bins of dirty clothes to Ryan's parent's house. We typical choose the family route because we can actually do something productive, like spend time with them, while getting our laundry done. Needless to say, it's always a bit trying to get all of our laundry from place to place and cleaned in a timely fashion.

The pros to this method include family time, an almost savage need to wear things more than once before throwing them in the laundry pile, and I'm much more adventurous with my clothing choices these days. I try my hardest each month to concentrate on those positive aspects of laundry day instead of loathing yet another household chore needing to be done. big kiss, bekuh

  1. Great perspective to making laundry into quality family time! With 4 littles + our own to do... I feel like I am always doing laundry so I try to remind myself that I am lucky to do it because it means I have people I love to do it for. P.S. My fella's name is Ryan too (you don't hear that name all that often). Have a great weekend.

  3. I know how that is :( A year ago I lived by myself and the only way I got my laundry done was to take it home, nearly 2 hrs away, or take it to my friend's down the road. It was worse that I had to lug it up and down a flight of stairs.

  5. We had to follow the visiting parents on the weekend for laundry route for years. Good for family time but definitely an inconvenience.

  6. Ish I remember being in school and having to take my laundry home.. Back then my mom would just do all my laundry for me, which turned out to be quite nice hehe

  7. I remember the days of dragging our laundry to our parents. When we got married we decided our next apartment HAD to have laundry - it is a pretty magical thing to have, especially when you have gone without!

hopefully you have a dishwasher to balance it out, we are using a portable dishwasher and it just isn't quite the same as the built in kind :)

  8. I was so thankful when I left uni and I finally had a washing machine! I actually quite enjoy laundry, we do it at night due to our leccy costs being lower. I now can't wait for a garden so I don't always have a flat full of wet clothes! :D

  9. Laundry facilities in our apartment are no where to be found as well. It has made for the most interesting wardrobe choices and a forced love for occasionally going commando [probably TMI, but the absolute truth]. One day we'll [hopefully] have a washer and dryer, and because of the effort laundry takes now, I'll appreciate it 74,983,729 times more.

  14. Turning laundry time into family time - how cute! That's very clever if you think about it. It's a great excuse to see the family and pass the time whilst the laundry gets done - it's normally never a fun wait.
